About Us

Our Beginning

Wayanad Girijana Seva Trust began its journey in 2002, not from a building of bricks and concrete, but from a small thatched shed nestled in the hilly tribal regions of Wayanad. That modest shelter became a place of learning, care, and hope. Children gathered there to learn their first letters.

Families came seeking guidance, support, and reassurance. There were no facilities, no infrastructure — only commitment, compassion, and trust. What started as a simple voluntary effort gradually grew into a structured institution, guided by the needs of the community rather than resources available. Each step forward was shaped by listening to the people, respecting their culture, and walking alongside them. From that humble thatched shed, the Trust slowly evolved into enduring institutions — a residential school and a community medical clinic — without losing the values that defined its beginning. Even today, the spirit of that first shelter continues to guide our work: serve quietly, grow steadily, and uphold human dignity.

Vision

We envision a just and inclusive society where tribal and marginalized communities of Wayanad live with equal access to education, healthcare, livelihood opportunities, and social dignity. Our vision goes beyond relief or short-term support. We aspire to create a future where every tribal child has the opportunity to learn, every family has access to basic health security, and every individual is empowered to lead a life of self-reliance, confidence, and respect. We believe true development is achieved when communities are strengthened from within — when progress is rooted in education, sustained by health, and guided by human dignity.

Our mission is to work consistently and compassionately with tribal and underserved communities of Wayanad through institution-based, long-term interventions that address the interconnected needs of education, health, and livelihood.
